Being told by Startup Italia under the heading ‘Italians from the other world’ is a significant recognition for us: It not only confirms the international relevance of the project, but also gives us the opportunity to tell how a solution born in Abruzzo is supporting winegrowers on different continents, with a simple and data-driven approach.

What we talked about

In an interview with Marco Ferrante, CEO and co-‑founder of Trace Technologies, Startup Italia described the entrepreneurial path that led to the birth of Vigneto Sicuro: from the local roots to the first experiments up to the transformation into a globally usable platform.
We explained the value proposition of the platform: A weather-agronomic service that requires no hardware in the field and combines satellite data with tens of thousands of weather stations on the ground to offer risk predictions for vine diseases up to three days in advance. This timeframe is often sufficient to plan targeted and effective treatments.
The article also highlighted the platform’s freemium model, which facilitates initial uptake by farmers and agronomists.

Results and dissemination

Today Vigneto Sicuro has over 6,000 registered winegrowers and agronomists worldwide, with active users in European regions such as Andalusia, Moldova, Senegal and in remote markets such as Bali, where the microclimate allows up to three harvests per year. The international uptake demonstrates the adaptability of the solution to very different climatic conditions and agricultural practices.
The mention of participation in the SMAU roadshow in Sweden, together with a delegation of startups selected with ITA – Italian Trade Agency, also highlights the commitment to international promotion and institutional collaboration.

Strategic issues that have emerged

The article highlights some strategic drivers that guide our vision:

  • Traceability and openness on foreign markets: Reducing the use of plant protection products and increasing transparency can facilitate access to new trade channels, even in the presence of tariffs and barriers.
  • Sustainability and CO2 reduction: foreseeing and acting only when necessary limits treatments, fieldwork and environmental impact.
  • Scalability without hardware: Offering a service that works without physical sensors facilitates adoption in contexts with limited resources or where infrastructure deployment is complex.

A thank you

We thank Startup Italia for the space dedicated to our history. This coverage helps us tell how technology can make viticulture more preventive, efficient and sustainable, anywhere in the world.

FAQ

Of course. Safe Vineyard is a decision support system. It doesn't replace your experience, but it can support you in difficult decisions which you have to take in the vineyard.

We have access to one large network of agro-meteo sensors throughout the national territory and we have developed a mathematical method that allows us to be able to understand what are the microclimatic conditions in different points of the territory

We give you access to very punctual microclimate data which are characteristic of your plot. Instead of buying a weather station for each of your plots thanks to Vigneto Sicuro you will have the same information as a weather station without needing to buy it. A nice saving!

We always provide microclimatic data related to your plot so that you can use them in the most constructive way.

Our information is much more timely and can help your agronomist advise you better on when to actually carry out treatments in the vineyard
